How to Print and Assemble Your Digital Sewing Pattern

Digital sewing patterns can be printed on a regular printer immediately after purchase. Here’s how to print and assemble your digital sewing pattern from Nordic Seam.

When you receive your Pattern Package, you’ll have the option to choose between three paper formats: A4, Letter, and Plot (full size print). Select the format that matches your printer and open the file. You can open the PDF sewing patterns and manage the layers using Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader is free software and works well on both Mac and Windows computers. You can download it from Adobe’s official website: Adobe Reader.

Getting Started with Your PDF Sewing Pattern

Most sewing patterns are either layered or come as a single size per document. For layered patterns, you can select the size you need, making it easier to print and cut the size you need.

  • To open the layers panel, select the "Layers" icon:
  • If the icon isn’t visible, go to: View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panels > Layers.

Choose Your Size

Select the "Layers" icon on the side panel. To show or hide a layer, click on the eye icon next to the layer. A visible layer will display the eye icon, while an invisible layer will have an empty square.

Choose your size by ensuring the eye icon next to that layer is visible. For all other sizes, click the eye icons to hide them.

Make sure to keep the layers labeled "For all sizes", "Frame" and/or "Text" visible, as these apply to every sewing pattern, regardless of size.

Print the Sewing Pattern

Print the sewing pattern on A4, Letter, or Plot-sized paper. Ensure the document is scaled to 100%.

Before printing, turn off the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option to prevent any unwanted scaling or cropping.

Control the Scaling

After printing the sewing pattern, check the scaling by measuring the scaling line. Use a ruler or measuring tape to ensure it matches the provided measurement, confirming the pattern is scaled correctly.

Cutting the Pattern Pages

If printing on A4 or Letter-sized paper, the sewing pattern will print across multiple pages. These pages will need to be tiled together to form the complete sewing pattern.

Trim or fold one side of the pattern sheets.

Aligning and Taping the Pattern Pages

Arrange the sheets on a flat surface, aligning the numbers.

Match each edge with its corresponding side, then tape the sheets together.
